Consistency, quality and a little bit of love is what father and son bakers Nick and Jamie Davey attribute to a great Aussie pastie.
The accolades for the family business, Orange Spot, keep rolling in, with the South Australian bakery recently taking out the title of best traditional pastie in the Great Aussie Pastie Competition 2015. It’s the sixth year in a row the beachside bakery has taken top gong.
Selling thousands of its pasties each weekend, it’s no surprise Nick (pictured) is keeping the secret recipe to himself.
βWeβve found our niche and we stick to it,β he told Adelaide Now.
βFor the first three or four years you are passionate, but after that youβre just obsessed with excellence. From Monday to Friday we probably sell about 400 to 500 pasties each day, and about 1000 each day of the weekend.
βPut it this way β we use a tonne of veg a week and weβre just a small family bakery.β
Orange Spot also took out trophies at the South Australian competition for best doughnut and best gourmet pie β shiraz beef with caramelised onion and jus.
