Fine Food Australia (FFA) has announced an enhanced support initiative with leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest, for the 2024 event.
After a successful collaboration in Melbourne in 2022 utilising OzHarvest’s Food Rescue service, FFA is taking a significant step forward in 2024 by introducing an option for monetary donations at registration – a first in their history.
FFA has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and community support, which is strongly aligned with OzHarvest’s mission.
“We are extremely happy to support such a vital organisation as OzHarvest,” Diversified Communications Managing Director David Longman said.
“Their remarkable work in food rescue not only complements our sustainability goals but also actively contributes to a solution that addresses both food wastage and food insecurity.”
Mr Longman said OzHarvest’s efficient and impactful operations in Victoria, their capacity to handle large volumes, and their close work with the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) makes them an ideal organisation to support.
“Working with OzHarvest ensures that no good food goes to waste during the Fine Food Australia events, redirecting quality food items to those in need across Melbourne,” he said.
In 2022, OzHarvest successfully rescued an impressive 1900kg of food during the final days of the Fine Food event, aiding numerous charities and vulnerable individuals. This year, FFA anticipates an even greater contribution, with an array of food items ranging from fruits and vegetables to prepared meals and dairy products directed to donation.
From OzHarvest’s perspective, the support from Fine Food Australia is invaluable.
OzHarvest Vic & SA Engagement Manager Alana Roberts said, “We are so grateful for the support from Fine Food Australia. Every $1 donated to OzHarvest allows us to deliver two meals to an Australian in need.
“This support is crucial in helping us continue our mission to feed vulnerable Australians and reduce food waste.”
Nationally, OzHarvest rescues 250 tonnes of fresh and nutritious food weekly, equivalent to the weight of two blue whales. Since its launch in 2004, OzHarvest has delivered over 250 million meals and saved 82,000 tonnes of food from ending up in landfill.
OzHarvest’s latest Community Needs Survey reveals demand for food relief is at an all time high.
Charities are struggling to cope, with a significant rise in first-time help-seekers and many families unable to meet their food needs.
The support from Fine Food Australia comes at a critical time, directly impacting thousands of lives across the country.
