Supaw Pet Bakery has been named as a finalist in Melbourne’s 2024 Lord Mayor’s Small Business of Year awards.
The bakery located in the heart of Melbourne creates birthday cakes specifically for cats and dogs.
Supaw Pet Bakery first opened in 2016 as an online store, however overwhelming demand soon led them to open a physical storefront in 2018.
Each year the Lord Mayor’s Small Business Awards recognise businesses that have made a significant contribution to the city’s culture, economic prosperity and livability.
Mörk Chocolatier – a popular hot chocolatier – took out the top prize.
Run by husband and wife team Kiril Shaginov and Josefin Kernell, they opened the business in 2012 with the aim of bringing specialty and ethically sourced hot chocolate to consumers.
Melbourne Lord Mayor Nick Reece said this is a sweet victory for Mörk.
“… beloved members of Melbourne’s vibrant laneway scene and the Queen Victoria Market precinct,” he said.
“Mörk has a taste for business. Its fourth location, Centre Place Cafe, opened in June and is already a go-to spot for city workers and visitors. This is testament to Kiril Shaginov and Josefin Kernell’s hard work and strong business vision.
“Every minute of every day we’re thankful for all the small businesses in Melbourne. These awards give us an opportunity to truly highlight and commemorate their tireless efforts.
“Congratulations to Mörk, STEM Birds and all of the other finalists and recipients that have been recognised for their incredible efforts in making Melbourne a better place to visit and do business in.”
Melbourne Small Business portfolio lead Councillor Jason Chang said Melbourne is a melting pot of vibrant and innovative small businesses.
“So it’s important we celebrate and thank them for contributing so much to our great city,” he said.
“This year there was a 24 per cent increase in the number of businesses recognised for achievement awards compared to last year, proving that Melbourne is a stable and thriving environment to run a business long-term.”
A total of 62 Melbourne-based businesses were recognised at the awards.
