Pastry king Christopher Thé ready for next venture

Pastry king, founder of Black Star Pastry and creator of the Strawberry Watermelon Cake, both of which have achieved worldwide fame, Christopher Thé has announced he will be departing his current position and cooking from home, getting ready for his next venture.

Most recently, Thé  has been at the helm of This Is Us by Christopher Thé, a wholesale company producing 100 per cent Australian-made sourdough muffins and crumpets, which he said will continue without him—to the relief of devotees of the products.

“After some fun times I am finishing up @this.is.us.au to cook from home and begin work on my own shop when things settle down,” his Instagram post read.

“Thanks for the journey and you’ll see some of my work in their planned retail shops in the future.”

He mentioned in comments to worried crumpet-fans that This Is Us products are still going strong, and he was working on several new products that will launch soon.

In 2008 Christopher opened his own boutique patisserie, Black Star Pastry, in Newtown. Black Star quickly became a Sydney cult hit, with its signature Strawberry Watermelon Cake becoming known as “the most Instagrammed Cake in the World”. The tiny Newtown shop features on the itinerary of many an international traveller and often has queues around the block.

We look forward to seeing what is next for this legend of the patisserie world!
