Brumby’s Bakeries across the country pumped out around 250,000 hot cross buns on Good Friday eve alone.
The brand bakes and sells around one million buns every Easter, with general manager David Dinnes saying ‘Bun Thursday’, as the industry’s affectionately dubbed the busy day, is the biggest production day of the year.
The secret to the product’s popularity is a fluffy texture and a light glaze, according to David. He also said customers responded well to the brand’s Nutella-filled hot cross buns, which were sold alongside traditional buns.
