Baker a hero in London terror attacks

A London baker has been praised for his efforts to thwart terrorists in London’s June terror attacks.

Eight people were killed and 48 injured during the terror attack, in which a van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge. After the van crashed, three men got out of the van and began stabbing people in Borough Market and the surrounding area.

Florin Morariu, a baker at Bread Ahead in Borough Market, threw crates at one of the attackers and ushered 20 people into the bakery before pulling down the shutters.

Florin told BBC News, “I threw the first crate. I knew he was going to dodge it, and while he dodged it, I hit him with the second crate. The moment I hit him, there was a police car coming towards us; they were shouting to run away because they were going to throw a grenade.”

Morariu was praised on Twitter with comments such as, “Salute you. You’re a selfless Romanian who risked his life to save others,” and, “Dear Romania, Can you send us some more bakers like Florin Morariu, he’s clearly a hard bastard. Yours, Britain,” as well as, “Florin Morariu is an absolute hero. He saved 20 people and attacked the terrorists with a couple of bread crates.”

The three attackers were eventually shot dead by police, and large concrete barriers have been installed on London Bridge to prevent further vehicular attacks.
