Queensland Bake Off Showcases Apprentices’ Skills

The Baking Association of Australia (BAA)’s first Queensland Excellence in Baking competition has been declared a resounding success, with competitors from all over the state displaying a high level of skill across both bread and pastry categories.

Logan Goulter from regional bakery Old Fernvale Bakery was the standout performer at the competition, which was held in early July at the Gold Coast TAFE, taking out the top prize for both his pastry and bread entries. In doing so, Logan has become the first individual to win both baking sections in a single competition.

The Old Fernvale Bakery was awarded a cash price, courtesy of the competition’s premier sponsor EOI.

The BAA established the Excellence in Baking competition after feedback from TAFE and industry participants stated it was too expensive to send apprentices interstate to compete. Rather than travelling to a national bake off, state winners are allocated points, with the highest scoring apprentice announced as the national winner.
