Pie And Pastie Perfection

Held at Foodservice Australia from May 27-29, Australia’s Best Pie Competition and Official Great Aussie Pastie Competition drew crowds of pie and pastie enthusiasts.

“The BAA was very impressed by the industry support for this very first annual event,” said executive director Tony Smith.

“With more than 1500 pieces of product to be judged, head judge Ron Taylor got the team up and running very quickly.”

The official winners for the Australia’s Best Pie title was Denmark Bakery in Western Australia and The winner of The Official Great Aussie Pastie Competition was Nick Davey of Orange Spot Bakery, South Australia. The lucky winners each received an impressive $7500 media package.

Up-and-coming talent was also recognised in both events, with an apprentice official winner named in both Australia’s Best Pie Competition and The Official Great Aussie Pastie Competition.

Viv Doran of McDonalds Bakery Mudgee took out the title of Best Apprentice Pie and Matthew Williams from Orange Spot Bakery won the award for Best Apprentice Pastie. Both apprentices received $500 each for their outstanding efforts.
