Ferny Way bakers still on top

Ferny Way Bakery’s Tony Robinson and Paul Humphries re-stocked their trophy cabinet in March following the Toowoomba Royal Bread Show with 20 awards, including 11 first places.

Ferny Way Bakery took home the King of the Bakers Championship award, the Toowoomba Championship award as well as the Most Successful Bread Competitor category. Having won the top award in 2010, the bakery held off strong competition from Toowoomba-based Born and Bread Bakery to maintain its ‘royal’ position for a second year.

The north Brisbane-based bakery owner, Mr Robinson said that he entered the competition for his customers.

“It shows them what we can do. It generates business and new customers. It assures customers that they shop somewhere that serves quality bread,” he said.

Mr Robinson said that he was particularly proud to win the white square loaf category.

“I always enjoy winning the white square, especially with competition from supermarkets. It shows that your compete on quality rather then cheap bread,” he said.

Qualified baker Mr Humphries, 25, has baked for eight years and said he was proud of all the product he makes.

Most Successful Cake Exhibitor went to Brumby’s Wyalla while Born and Bread earned the Regional Shield and Regional Bread award.

The competition organisers said it was “another successful Toowoomba Bread Show where the quality and standards of baking were once again showcased”.
