Nominations for the 2024 Australian Baking Industry National Scholarships (ABINSA) are now open.

Once again the Australian Society of Baking (ASB) will be partnering with EOI and a select group of sponsors and industry supporters for the 2024 event.

In 2024 there will be two age categories. The Sydney J Packham Industry Medal for entrants aged 18 to 24, and the Arthur E Denison Trophy 25 years and older.

Four regional winners for each of the scholarships will receive five days and four nights in Melbourne in October, as well as tickets to the Sponsors Welcome Cocktail Function, a two-day industry tour, attendance at the ASB annual conference, 12 months membership with the ASB, and a ticket to the Gala ASB Dinner.

The Regional winners will be announced in late September.

The national winners will be announced at the ASB Chairman’s Dinner on October 23 in Melbourne. Each of the national winners will receive a five-day course at the San Francisco Baking Institute, including airfares, accommodation and spending money.

The 2023 winners, Ganesh Iyer and Caleb Braszell, both expressed their excitement at taking out the awards, which included the opportunity to travel to Paris to attend Europain.
“It was awesome,” Caleb said of the win.

“After putting all the hard work in, into the theory behind it… being able to actually stand up and accept the award was pretty cool.

“I’ve always wanted to go to a big baking convention. Seeing different equipment and processing – I find that stuff fascinating.”

“I’m still trying to absorb it,” Ganesh added.

“This was my first shot! I tried because I wanted to share my knowledge with the young, budding bakers. This was a good opportunity for that.”

The 2024 ABINSA entry kits are available now, and will close June 30, 2024.
