One woman in the USA has shown just how far people will go to make sure their resumes get read. She had it iced onto a cake!
Karly Blackburn has recently made waves on social media due to the unconventional method she used to get her resume to employers at Nike.
In a LinkedIn post, Karly tells the story of how she heard that Nike was having a big corporate party to celebrate Just Do It day. As a product marketer and brand manager, Karly had a few ideas about how to get Nike’s attention. It was when she was bounding things around with a colleague that it came to her how to get Nike’s attention. “What better way than to send a cake to a big party,” she writes.
Even though the team that Karly was looking to join didn’t have any vacancies, she sourced a bakery to print the two-page spread of her resume onto a giant cake and then hired a courier to hand deliver it to executives at the party.
And it got there! Despite the difficulties of navigating the delivery system and the driver having to fight her way to deliver the cake, it made it to the Nike party.
Karly’s post finishes without any news on whether or not she got the job, but, as she says, “At the end of the day, it’s not about the cake at all. It is about making things happen and taking a chance outside of the box.”
