A US bakery has divided opinion and alienated employees with its staff bathroom rules, which it claims have been misinterpreted.
Reddit users were left in disbelief at the set of rules stuck on the door of the bakery’s production kitchen, while the original poster claimed his pal who worked there had handed in their notice in retaliation.
The shocking poster read: βAlways clock out when passing this door.
βIncluding: bathroom breaks, 10-minute shift breaks, lunch breaks, questions regarding personal requests.”
The note continued: βQuestions regarding production should not require leaving the production area, please see floor manager on duty.
βPaid break times will be added to your paycheck (sic) in accordance with hours worked.β
Users were appalled by the demands, with one user writing: βIf you want to buy my body for 8 hours, you will pay for its needs, too.β
Vegan bakery Red Plate Foods thenΒ eventually owned upΒ to it being their company after facing backlash online.
Boss Becca apologised to her employees and explained the store was βtrying to track a new door β not the activities that happened beyond the doorβ.
She said the policies were never implemented after βrealising the harm the changes caused and our mistake of not involving employees in discussionβ, and also insisted bathroom breaks were never docked from employeesβ pay packets.
