The Royal Adelaide Show Re-capped

Carnival at night, full of rides and tents that have bright colours and are well lit (Royal Adelaide Show)

Earlier this month (2–10 September, to be specific), the Royal Adelaide Show took place at the Adelaide Showground. As happens every year, part of that included the Professional Baking Competition, which gave bakers the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete against other industry professionals across a range of different baked goods.

Full of various events and competitions showcasing a range of different industries in South Australia, the Royal Adelaide Show is always a fun event for the whole family, with carnival rides, farm animals and food of almost every description.

The Royal Adelaide Show started in 1839 and for 181 years has been boosting and encouraging rural industries in South Australia.

The Professional Baking Competition was a highlight of the Royal Adelaide Show. Some winners included:

Light Rye Loaf

First place: Boogie, Banana

Second place: The Village Baker

Three Vanilla Slices

First place: The Village Baker

Second Place: Boogie, Banana

Apprentice/Trainee/TAFE Student Award

First place: CJs Bakery

Second place: CJs Bakery

But baking wasn’t the only competition to take place, the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company and Bracegirdles House of Fine Chocolate swept the board at the South Australian Dairy Awards Chocolate Competition.

Enthusiasts of the Royal Adelaide Show don’t have to wait for next year’s event to get their Show fix. You can now visit the new Show Museum, which is lovely way, as the website so aptly puts it, to “take a step back in time to explore the lives of our early farmers, gardeners, cooks, creators, animal lovers and wine makers.”
