Have you ever fancied drinking your vanilla slice? Well, thanks to a new partnership between South Australia’s Pirate Life Brewing and Vili’s Family Bakery this is now a possibility.

The two have teamed up to create a limited edition release of Vanilla Slice Specialty Ale – a beer that has been inspired by the classic bakery pastry.

According to Glam Adelaide, the keg-only release is made from a blend of malted barley, oats, and wheat, which together give the beer a toffee hue and biscuity notes. These are designed to provide the base inspired by the pastry, while post-fermentation additions of vanilla and coconut add a creamy sweetness to the brew and a hint of candied passionfruit rounds everything out.

The hotly anticipated collaboration, which was announced in early September, brings together two beloved South Australian brands.

No stranger to collaborations, Pirate Life Brewing first opened its door in 2014 in Hindmarsh and, since then, has worked with everyone from Tasting Australia to musicians Hilltop Hoods and a number of sporting organisations. Vili’s Family Bakery has been an Adelaide institution since 1968, and over the decades has grown into one of the state’s most well-known brands.
