The Northern Territory Hosts Its Own Baking Show

A celebration of the Northern Territory’s best bakers was on show in September, as part of the very first Northern Territory Baking Show.

With 30 businesses from the territory entering in the competition, there was a wide variety of bread and cakes to keep the judges busy.

Lee Woodward from Fannie Bay’s Outback Bakery was awarded the coveted Champion Loaf, while the bakery itself also won the battle of the bakeries competition. Champion Cake/Pastry was won by Kristin Bonney from SkyCity.

While the competition held at the Palmerston CDU campus was fierce, Baking Association of Australia president Stuart Latter said it was the territory’s baking industry that came out on top.

Mr Latter, who owns a bakery in New South Wales, told ntnews.com.au the overall standard of baking in the Northern Territory is just as high as in the rest of the country.

“Some of the ciabatta that ended up winning Champion Loaf was as good as ciabatta as I’ve seen anywhere in Australia,” Mr Latter said.
