On March 15, Subiaco, Perth will welcome a vibrant new addition to its culinary landscape: Pino’s Empanadas.
The bakery, located on Rokeby Road, is set to introduce a South American favourite to Perth’s food scene, offering a twist on the traditional meat-in-dough concept that has long been beloved in many cultures.
Empanadas, a staple across South America, are savoury filled pastries that vary slightly in style depending on the country.
Brooke and Axel Pino, the husband-and-wife duo behind the bakery, are eager to share these authentic tastes with the Perth community.
“Empanadas are synonymous with South America. Every country has a style that is slightly different, but they are always packed with flavour, and the best bakeries would have lines stretching out the door,” Brooke told perthisok.com.
It was during a trip to Chile, Axel’s homeland, that the couple realised the potential of bringing these pastries to Perth.
“We got to work perfecting our dough recipe, balancing the fillings and renovating our Subiaco premises,” Brooke said.
Now, after months of preparation, they’re excited to introduce their creations to local food lovers.
Pino’s Empanadas will offer 12 different flavours, ranging from traditional spiced beef, curry chicken, and barbecue pork to a vegan option for those following plant-based diets. To satisfy a sweet tooth, the bakery will also serve treats like apple pie empanadas, arroz con leche, and dulce de leche brownies.
“Empanadas are such a versatile dish. They can be enjoyed as a single snack or combined for a bigger meal,” Axel said to perthisok.com.
With a focus on takeaways for their grand opening, the couple also plans to add a parklet and a South American pantry to the bakery in the future.
“Empanadas really do bring people together, and that’s at the heart of why we have started Pino’s. They encompass the energy and vibrancy of South America, with rich flavours that will have you coming back for more,” Brooke said.
