Tip Top Bakeries officially opened its $130 million bakery line on February 20, 2026, effectively doubling the production capacity of fresh bread at the site.

The new bakery line, located at Canning Vale, south of the Perth CBD, will now be able to produce up to 8350 loaves per hour.

According to Food Processing Tip Top Bakeries managing director Andrew Cummings said the expansion project was about ensuring Western Australians could rely on a local supply of fresh bread.

“When last year’s fire temporarily disrupted production at our Canning Vale bakery, it highlighted just how critical local food manufacturing is in Western Australia,” he said.

“This $130 million investment secured the future of WA’s bread supply. It means greater resilience, stronger reliability, outstanding quality and confidence that fresh bread will stay on supermarket shelves across the state.”

The new facility has been designed to create a safer, more modern workplace for Tip Top Bakeries employees, and includes a lunchroom, dedicated health hub, change rooms and prayer room. Safety has also been prioritised throughout the entire redesign with improved traffic management, more efficient layout, reduced manual handling, and enhanced cleaning systems expected to deliver improved safety outcomes.

“We are not simply replacing an ageing production line,” Mr Cummings said.

“We are building a modern day bakery designed for the future – safer for our people, more reliable for our customers, and more resilient for WA.”

A fire tore through the Canning Vale sit in October 2025, and although the site was able to continue production at a reduced capacity, the end result was still a statewide shortage of sliced bread in supermarkets across WA.
