Twenty French pastry chefs have joined forces to create a 121.8m long strawberry cake – effectively claiming the world record in the process.
The cake surpasses the previous record holder, which measured 100.48m, and was made in 2019 in the Italian town of San Mauro Torinese.
The 2025 team were all brought together by Moroccan-born, French-based pastry chef Youssef El Gatou. The cake used 350kg of strawberries, 150kg of sugar, 4000 eggs, and 415kg of cream, and weighed in at a whopping 1.2 tonnes.
According to France 24, in order to claim the Guinness World record the cake had to measure at least 8cm wide and 8cm tall. The logistics were so difficult that the team had to use blowtorches to heat the bowl for the cream mix, and the end product took one week to finish before being assembled in just 24 hours.
The cake was made in an ice rink in the Parisian suburb of Argenteuil and, after completion, was left on tables in the ice rink for residents to inspect and taste test.
Youssef said setting a Guinness World Record had been a dream of his since he was a child.
“I was looking for a product, or a French pastry, and I also wanted to highlight farm produce, so French strawberries and products like milk, cream and butter,” he told AFP.
France also claimed the Guinness World Record for a 140m baguette in 2024.
