Australian bakeries get on board Baking for Brain Cancer

The Dalton family created Baking for Brain Cancer

The second annual Baking for Brain Cancer fundraiser has been hailed a success.

More than 92 bakeries from across Australia signed on to the 2026 event, which was held on May 30, raising a grand total of $132,714.

It’s a figure that Nathan Dalton, whose family spearheaded the initiative, said they were absolutely blown away by.

“We are absolutely thrilled with how Baking for Brain Cancer went this year. There was an immense amount of support from right across Australia, with so many new bakeries and cafes joining us and thousands of everyday Aussies buying something from their local business to show their support! We had an absolute blast,” he said.

“We were absolutely blown away by this amount! So in total, in the first two years, Baking for Brain Cancer has raised over a quarter of a million dollars.”

Nathan said Baking for Brain Cancer had grown by leaps and bounds in such a short period of time, with many familiar names returning to support them in 2026 alongside plenty of new faces.

“The support over the last two years has shown us that this is a very special movement, something we are very grateful for. We have seen just how incredible the baking industry is, and are so encouraged by how Baking for Brain Cancer was able to bring so many parts of the industry together to unite around a common purpose,” Nathan said.

“Many blessings to every bakery and café that was on board, and to every customer who came out on the day to support. Truly we can ‘bake’ a  difference when we all come together.”

The Dalton family – Phil, Tonie and their children Nathan and Lauren – established Baking for Brain Cancer after Tonie was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma (GBM) in April 2024.

Beyond their own experience with brain cancer, which is estimated to kill more children than any other disease and more people under the age of 40 die from it than any other form of cancer in Australia, Phil, Tonie, Nathan and Lauren decided it was also time to help others in the same situation.

Over a family dinner one night it was decided – they would hold a fundraiser at Phil’s Pies and Pastries. Then, after chatting with others in the industry, the idea swiftly grew into Baking for Brain Cancer.

Nathan said their goal was to continue growing Baking for Brain Cancer

“Our goal is now to keep growing the network of bakeries and cafes while laying strong foundations to ensure Baking for Brain Cancer can become an even stronger force for good moving forward,” he said.

All proceeds raised through Baking for Brain Cancer will be donated to Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.
