Australian-born Philip Khoury has announced he will step down from the Head Pastry Chef role at London’s Harrods after six years.
Philip, who specialises in plant-based pastry, announced the move on Instagram.
“Having shared my notice a little while back, the end felt like an inevitability coming toward me at glacial pace. Rarely do we stop to take stock but it must have been when I put this jacket on for the last time that it really hit me like a London double decker bus,” he wrote.
“After a magical, crazy, fast and slow, sometimes challenging but oh soooo fulfilling six years, it’s time for me to take my next steps. I am so grateful to [Harrods executive pastry chef] Markus Boh and [senior head pastry chef] Alistair Birt for the opportunity of a lifetime. I gave it a red hot go and am so proud of everything I managed to do in and out of Harrods. It allowed me to discover what I was truly passionate about and I’m so happy I got to share it with a remarkable team, past and present.
“I really can’t wait to share what’s next. Stay tuned!”
Philip joined Harrods back in 2018, and during his time at the high end store wrote and released his cookbook A New Way to Bake, which took out the Fortnum & Mason Best Debut Cookery Book award in 2024. He also appeared on UK TV on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen and served as a semi-final guest judge on Bake Off: The Professionals.
Speaking with Baking Business last year Philip confirmed work was already underway on a second cookbook, which he said would draw on ideas that either weren’t ready for A New Way to Bake, or didn’t quite fit into it. He also said another major plan was one day opening his own business.
