US baking television star Buddy Valastro will headline a new Western Australian baking show showcasing the skills of local cake decorators.

Perth bakers will have the chance to demonstrate their skills in the Cake Baking competition at the Everything Baking Exhibition, to be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 4-5, 2012.

Entries are open to all skill levels and ages, and will be judged by a number of international and national cake artists, including Carlo’s Bakery owner Buddy.

The cake baking competition is open to everyone from amateurs to professionls and includes 36 baking specialty classes such as biscuits, cupcakes, sponge cakes, gluten free cakes, wedding cakes, and, of course, novelty cakes.

There will also be a specialty class where competitors can make a cake inspired by Buddy’s TV show, TLC’s Cake Boss, to be judged by him.

Entries to this competition are now open from a cost of $5 per class specialty, and entry forms must be received by Cake Artists Australia by January 3, 2012.

The age categories are eight years and under, 8 -to-14 years, and then an open category. Certificates will be presented for first, second and third-place getters, along with some generous prizes.

Buddy, Foxtel TV star, cook book author and owner of the world famous Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey US, will be performing his first-ever live shows outside of North America at the Everything Exhibition, where audience members will be able to get up close and personal with the celebrity chef.

A first of its kind for WA, this exhibition will feature the latest products and services to the baking and cake decorating industries. There will also be a ‘Cake Convention’ during the event, featuring the nation’s best bakers and cake decorators in demonstrations and information sharing classes.

The Everything Baking exhibition will be open from 9am-to-5pm daily and costs $16 to enter.
