A new collaboration that draws on the marriage of croissant-fuelled mornings and gin-filled nights has resulted in a world-first croissant gin.
Four Pillars Gin and Lune Croissanterie have teamed up for the collaboration to produce the spirit, which will launch on February 19.
The gin was created by distilling Lune’s caramel slice-smelling clarified butter along with almonds roasted in the Four Pillar’s distillery kitchen, and wattleseed, nutmeg, juniper, and other botanicals.
Four Pillars Head Distiller Sarah Prowse said Lune croissants are made with almost double the butter of your average croissant, so they knew butter had to be a key part of the gin.
“It turns out there is a knack to distilling butter but after a few trial distillations we found our sweet spot and we couldn’t be happier with the end result,” she said.
“The nuts and spices add a real depth to the gin, the vanilla bean brings a hint of sweetness, and the we’ve brought in our signature organic oranges to deliver lovely brightness and balance.
But, how did the croissant gin come to be? Turns out both the Melbourne-based businesses had crossed paths a number of times and found a common ground.
Lune Croissanterie founder Kate Reid said she was excited about the partnership.
“Infusing our Lune magic into my favourite gin was a dream come true,” she said.
” I can honestly say I’ve never been thirsty for a croissant before, but once you taste this gin you’ll understand what I mean.”
