The final state round for the Excellence in Baking competition has taken place in Victoria.
The competition was held over two days with the apprentices gathering at GO TAFE Shepparton on February 17 and 18.
Imogen McGill from Porter Avenue Pies and Cakes took out the pastry portion of the competition, and Jake Taylor from Hungie Fangs won the bread component.
Porter Avenue Pies and Cakes took to social media to congratulate Imogen.
“We are incredibly proud of our pastry cook apprentice Imogen, who competed in the Victorian Excellence in Baking competition,” they write.
“A huge thank you to her mentors, Brendan Carter from Federation TAFE and Maylee (Howard) for their support and guidance.
“We also want to acknowledge the BAA and all the sponsors for creating opportunities like this – helping showcase the incredible Australian baking industry and paving the way for the next generation of pastry cooks.”
With the state rounds now completed the Excellence in Baking competition will move to the national finals, which will be held at the Baking Industry Trade Show in Sydney.
As part of the grand prize the 2025 National Excellence in Baking award winners will travel to New Zealand to take part in the ANZBake competition.
