The Restaurant and Catering Association’s Awards for Excellence program recognises restaurants and caterers that are excelling in their field.
The Savour Australia Hostplus Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that recognises exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia. It provides publicity for hospitality businesses, a chance to network with key suppliers, and acknowledges the achievements of hospitality staff.
The National Awards Gala Dinner was held on Monday 28 October at the Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane, and saw two bakeries recognised as leading in their field.
In the Bakery / Patisserie field, Kalymnos Pastries in South Australia took out the gold on the night.
Since it was established in Adelaide in 1995, Kalymnos Pastries has provided customers with the opportunity to enjoy four generations of traditional Greek, European cakes and pastries.
The Greek bakery in Torrensville prides itself on its passion for food and life that has been carried on from generation to generation, sharing traditional Greek is the word breads and pastries with locals.
Runner-up in the category was Sonoma Bakery in Canberra, which is known for its artisanal sourdough loaves. According to the Sonoma website, every loaf of Sonoma sourdough contains freshly-milled flour, filtered water, sourdough starter and sea salt, along with passion, soul, hard work and integrity, fed with love by the bakers who make each one by hand.
