Melbourne-based bakery Mietta by Rosemary has won the Pastry Opening of the Year award at the prestigious global La Liste awards. The list ranks the world’s best restaurants, pastry shops and hotels.
The brainchild of pastry chef Rosemary Andrews, the Malvern bakery has been open just six months.
Ms Andrews accepted the trophy at the ceremony in Paris, saying she was honoured to receive the gong.
“I am truly humbled and grateful for the support from both my staff and customers,” she said.
La Liste managing director Hélène Pletrini said Mietta set a new standard for authenticity in the industry.
“[It] reminds us all of the real point of pastry – the pleasure of eating great cake,” she said.
“Thank you for giving cakes their true value by displaying them like fine jewellery or a sought after handbag, in your beautiful Melbourne patisserie.”
Twenty-one other Melbourne bakeries were also named on La Liste, including Tokyo Lamington, Tivoli Road Bakery, Monarch Cakes, Lune, and Tarts Anon – which has also previously taken out the award.
The La Liste Pastry awards recognise 25 winners across 10 categories with the aim of illustrating the diversity of talents, creativity and commitment of global pastry.
New York-based pastry chef and Cronut creator Dominique Ansel took out the Pastry Game Changer Award, while the World’s Most Creative Pastry Chef 2024 award went to French pastry chef Bastien Blanc-Tailleur.
A full list of winners can be found on the La Liste website.
