A bagel company in Queens, New York, has launched legal action against Dunkin’ Donuts in an attempt to force it to drop the word “artisan” from its marketing for an “artisan bagel” line, arguing that it’s false advertising, according to forbes.com.
Davidovitch Bakery business development director Marc Fintz filed motions with the Federal Trade Commission and New York State Attorney General, as well as the Better Business Bureau national advertising board. Forbes.com says Davidovitch Bakery is alleging that Dunkin’ Donuts artisan bagels creates the perception that their products are produced by hand, using traditional methods in small quantities, which is not the case. The bakery argues that their bagels are truly artisan – produced by hand, kettle boiled and plank baked using traditional recipes.
