Beefy’s Pies has launched a fundraising initiative inspired by the NRL State of Origin rivalry between Queensland and New South Wales.
The limited-edition Steak vs. Steak pie campaign aims to raise more $28,000 for children’s health charity Give Me 5, which supports the Royal Children’s Hospital and its work with ill children across Australia.
Running from May 26 to July 9, the campaign centres on two specially created state-branded steak pies—each 20 per cent larger than the brand’s standard offering and made using Beefy’s signature recipe with premium Queensland beef.
Customers can choose their state allegiance through their pie purchase, with $1 from every QLD or NSW pie sold donated to the charity. Sales are being tracked by state, creating a public scoreboard that taps into local pride to fuel participation.
Beefy’s general manager Jason Lyons believes that with a collective effort, they can surpass their previous fundraising efforts.
“Off the back of last year’s incredible support, where we raised $25,000 for Give Me 5 through our QLD pies, we’re excited to go even bigger in 2025,” Jason told Mumbrella.
“This year, it’s QLD vs. NSW as we bring the full rivalry to life with two epic pies, each proudly stamped with their state.”
The Steak vs. Steak pies are now available in-store at Beefy’s locations throughout the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, and Ballina. They can also be purchased online through the Beefy’s app and for delivery with other food apps.
Beefy’s is ready for the ultimate showdown of flavour and state pride. As James excitedly noted, “The challenge is on: who’ll eat more, give more, and show more pie pride—Queensland or New South Wales?”
