Melbourne bakery Baker D. Chirico has opened the doors to its hotly anticipated Brisbane store.
Located at Newstead, the city’s flagship store features the eye-catching design Baker D. Chirico has become known for. However, it’s what’s in the cabinets that’s garnering the most attention: rosemary croissants filled with manchego and prosciutto cotto sit alongside tamago mayo brioche rolls, gianduia-filled pain Suisse, and pina colada danishes.
The Baker D. Chirico team said they wanted to thank everyone who came on the opening day.
“On behalf of our team at Baker D. Chirico we would like to give a big thank you to every one that came and showed their love and support on Sunday,” they wrote on Instagram.
“As out guests experienced a touch of Italian summer, filled piccolo pasticcini, local gelato, Aperol spritz, champagne and, of course, many bombolone.
“To all our wonderful customers, we are very excited to officially welcome you into our store.”
The Brisbane bakery has been years in the making, with the initial plans announced in 2020.
“We [finalised the] plan with [the designer] March Studio at the start of 2019, and we all thought we’d have a bakery after a year,” owner Daniel Chirico told Broadsheet.
“It’s been a really dragged out process.”
A regular pop-up shop has been hosted since January, with a selection of fresh bread and pastries on offer.
The Newstead bakery features a full-scale baking kitchen where the French, Italian and German-inspired range will be made, in addition to seating for 40 customers – inside and outside.
“Think of [it as a] modern-day Roman-style bakery as opposed to a French [bakery],” owner Daniel Chirico said.
