Baker D. Chirico announces Brisbane pop-up shop

Melbourne bakery institution Baker D. Chirico has announced it will be opening the doors to a pop-up shop in Brisbane.

The pop-up shop will feature the brand’s immensely popular hot bread and patisseries, with doors opening on January 11.

The move comes ahead of the opening of the store’s hotly anticipated Brisbane location in Newstead.

Baker D. Chirico first announced plans to expand to Brisbane in 2020, and settled on a location at the base of Cavcorp’s Long Island development. However these plans were delayed due to COVID.

“We [finalised the] plan with [the designer] March Studio at the start of 2019, and we all thought we’d have a bakery after a year,” owner Daniel Chirico told Broadsheet.

“It’s been a really dragged out process.”

The Brisbane space will feature a full-scale baking kitchen that will be used to produce the German-, French-, and Italian-inspired products that Baker D. Chirico is renowned for. This will be in addition to a bakery-style breakfast menu – minus the eggs.

“Everything gets made with the same integrity whether we’re making a 24-hour fermented loaf of bread or a fried doughnut,” Daniel told Long Island.

“Something really simple but done well is what I’m really all about.

The new location is set to be in Newstead in a designed space that will seat 40 customers (inside and outside). It will share some similarities with its Melbourne counterparts, however the new Brisbane location will feature more of an Italian inspiration.

“Think of [it as a] modern-day Roman-style bakery as opposed to a French [bakery],” Daniel said.

Baker D. Chirico is urging those planning on attending the pop-up shop to keep an eye on their social media for information about opening days and times.

“We will be serving a selection of fresh bread and pastries from 8am until sold out,” they said on Instagram.
