In a shock move, Adelaide’s Finest Supermarkets swept the board at the 2026 National Artisan Baking Competition.
The supermarket’s head of Production Robert Trimboli brought home the Champion Product of the Show and Champion Sourdough Loaf titles for his sourdough, alongside the Champion Viennoiserie trophy for his croissant.
The win comes on the back of the supermarket’s success at the Baking Association of Australia’s South Australian Baking Show earlier in the year, at which they came away with the Champion Loaf of the Show – Jan Huis in’t Veld Trophy for their ciabatta and the Champion Cake/Pastry of the Show – Margaret Davey trophy for their croissant.
Speaking with Glam Adelaide Head Pastry Chef Tharindu Ranatunga said they had started baking the winning croissant three days before getting on the plane to Queensland’s Gold Coast, where the competition was held.
“There is a whole team and a huge process involved that gives this one little pastry time enough to develop into something special. I have to thank my team for their dedication and Adelaide’s Finest for their belief in our pastry program,” Tharindu said.
When announcing the win on their website, Adelaide’s Finest Supermarkets said, “Thank you for your loyal support over the many years we’ve invested in our baked bread and patisserie program. And we beg forgiveness as we lift production to meet demand.”
