Further details have been announced ahead of the Baking Association of Australia’s 2024 Baking Industry Trade Show.

The major industry event, which is set to be held in June, will see NZ apprentices cross the ditch to take part in the Excellence in Baking competition on June 18 and 19. Each of the apprentices have been nominated by the Baking New Zealand Association.

After  many years, 2024 will also see the ANZBake Competition reintroduced in 2024 as a Trans Tasman event.

On June 20, from 9am until 2.30pm, the two teams from Australia and New Zealand will compete in the Excellence in Baking area. the two teams will create an arrangement of baked products – from lamingtons to pavlova and a lamb pie – for everyone to taste and try.

Baking Association of Australia executive officer Tony Smith said the trade show would also have the artisan bakers area with continuous demos with tips and ideas for the micro baker at heart.

“Donut World has also grown into an out of this world area of innovation for donuts,” he said.

For those in the industry looking to improve their business knowledge, Bakers Corner will host four major panels to discuss things that may affect your business.

The industry discussion panels will be on: the new PEAL and allergen labelling laws; an industry update on the new superannuation laws along with industrial relations and zombie agreements; using social media correctly to improve your bakery business; and the new Federal guidelines on food wastage and trade rules.

“Then, of course, the Industry Cocktail Party will again be held on June 20, thanks to EOI Peerless, at the Tote Dining Building from 4pm to 6pm,” Tony said.

At the core of The Baking Industry Trade Show, however, remains the enduring favourite competitions: the 2024 Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie Competition, as well as the Artisan Baking Competition, and National Donut Competition. The jam-packed event will also include the National Excellence in Baking Awards dinner, which will be held on June 19.

The Baking Industry Trade Show will be held at Moonee Valley Racecourse.
