Recently celebrating its 18th birthday, Urban Oasis Bakery in Murrumbeena, Victoria has long been known as a mecca for Middle Eastern food, such as its iconic baklava, beetroot hummus, Turkish delight, and shawarma.
In the 1990s, Urban Oasis Bakery started out serving traditional Lebanese pastries, and today, in the wake of recent renovations, the store has morphed into a café, food store and cooking school.
The renovation saw the addition of a dessert bar, deli, and fresh fruit and vegetable section, with a focus on making the store more interactive.
One cool feature they have installed is the grind-your-own nut butter section, where customers can make their own Belgian chocolate hazelnut butter, peanut butter or almond butter.
In the new dessert bar are crepes and doughnuts, and store owner George Makool says they are selling approximately 2000 doughnuts per week.
They’ve also branched out by selling crockery, toiletries, and cookbooks.
