Lockdown has had the creative juices flowing as everyone tries to avoid the boredom of the same four walls. Firstly, they tried out sourdough. Having conquered their starters and baguettes, the next logical step was obviously… shaping loaves into frogs? Regardless of how the idea started, this delightful new bread trend is taking over socials and we love it!
TikTok has become the social media platform of choice over the past few months for young and old alike (it also brought us the Dalgona coffee trend), and it’s on the video-sharing app that videos with the hashtag #froggybread have amassed millions of likes.
The inspiration stems from a 2005 recipe on The Fresh Loaf, but for some reason it resurfaced and people are suddenly making it en masse and posting it online as regular loaves of bread become boring and need bug-eyes and legs attached.
Without further ado, here are some of the results of the somewhat unconventional baking challenge (remembering the time the people of the internet had trouble mastering banana bread).

As is often the case with these trends, perfection is not the aim. In fact, it is the most disastrous attempts that garner the most attention and provide some much needed comedic relief. Which is good, because if you search for #froggybread on social media, there are plenty that more closely resemble a cane toad on a country Queensland road than the cute amphibian associated with Kermit.
In any case, it’s a perfectly wholesome way to pass the time, and would incredibly cute as a dinner roll beside the soup of the day.
