South Australian pastry chef Jeremy Allan has taken home the top gong at the annual ACADA Australasian Cake Oscar Awards.
Mr Allan from Urban Desserts was awarded the 2024 Pastry Chef of the Year at the awards, which were held in Brisbane earlier this month.
It was a moment he described as surreal.
“It felt amazing, it was a surreal moment when they called my name,” he told The Advertiser.
“We’re starting to be recognised for what we do.
Mr Allan, who first gained national recognition in 2016 after he competed on The Great Australian Bake Off, told the publication his love for baking began we he started making cakes for his own children’s birthday parties, and he discovered the world of patisserie. Previously Mr Allan had worked in the steel industry.
He started out by making cakes from his home in 2018 before opening his first store at Morphett Vale, south of Adelaide.
“I let my creativity fly when I’m making my cakes,” he said.
