Pastry chefs, cake artists, chocolatiers and sweet loving foodies from around the world will be flocking to Icsa Hits Brisbane to take up an incredible challenge.
Set for May, Australia’s only international standard cake show, the International Cake Show Australia (ICSA) hits brisbane, the event is no ordinary challenge or competition – it’s an extreme challenge.
Two sugar artists, Dorothy Klerck and Margie Carter, have already taken up the challenge and are taking their entry to the limit. Can you imagine a 5x4m edible Great Barrier Reef bought to life with a huge coral cave, and an abundance of marine life including fish and turtles? If that wasn’t enough, they’re even creating a life-size edible diver and the ultimate danger, a life-size shark.
The creators of last year’s award-winning Alice in Wonderland sugar feature have also registered their 2019 competition entry. This time they will be creating an edible 6x6m Wind in the Willows Children’s Sugar Art Feature where you’ll be able to follow the main characters Mr Toad, Badger, Mole and Rat on an adventure through their home, the Thames Valley.
There are exciting new competition categories in 2019, designed especially for teams of pastry chefs working in restaurants, bakeries, venues and the event industry.
These include the Pastry Chefs’ Collaboration (the professional division), Best Show Feature – Cake Artist Collaboration and Class 26, the Chocolate Showpiece. There’s even an apprentice/student division. Celebrity Chef Adriano Zumbo will lead the team of professional judges for these three categories.
“There are so many amazing categories within the competition designed for people at all skill levels, however these three categories have our industry talking,” ICSA chief executive officer Joan McDermott said.
ICSA will be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds from May 17-19, 2019.
