South Australia’s Banana Boogie Bakery has officially claimed the title of Australia’s Best Sausage Roll for 2026.
The national title came as part of a clean sweep of the South Australian Baking Show, held on May 16, which saw the Belair-based bakery also take home first prize in the Vanilla Slice and Beef Pie titles as well as Most Successful Cake & Pastry Exhibitor.
If that wasn’t enough, Banana Boogie apprentice Lauren Govender also took home the trophies for best carrot cake, gourmet donuts and decorated cupcakes.
When sharing the news on Instagram, the bakery credited the win to implementing a few minor tweaks to their popular recipes.
“After missing out last year, the team went back to the recipe book, made a few minor tweaks… and this weekend we officially took back the title of Best Sausage Roll in Australia at the South Australian Baking Show,” they wrote.
“An incredible result for the whole crew… massive thanks to Baking Association of Australia for continuing to make these competitions possible and showcasing the talent within the industry.
“And the biggest shout out goes to our entire team, front and back of house, for the hard work, long hours and care that goes into everything we do every single day. This one’s for all of you.”
The South Australian Baking Show also saw bakers from across the state attend to battle it out in the 32 classes.
Adelaide’s Finest – Pasadena and Frenville took home the trophies for Champion Loaf of the Show – Jan Huis in’t Veld Trophy for their ciabatta and the Champion Cake / Pastry of the Show – Margaret Davey Trophy for their croissants. Matt Hissy from Bakers Delight Seaford was awarded the top spot for Most Successful Bread Exhibitor.
