France won the Gelato World Cup in January with an overall score of 3654 points. The Cup is a biennial competition organised by SIGEP where teams come from all over the world to compete.
This year, 12 teams were invited by Italian Exhibition Group to take on eight tests: a decorated tub of gelato, artistic gelato cake, decorated cup, haute cuisine entrée, mystery box, artistic items, gelato snacks and the final grand buffet (the presentation of all the entries).
Spain came second with 3609 points and our very own Team Australia came third with 3483 points.
Martino Piccolo led Team Australia, which included Andre Sandison, Thomas Mitchell, Donato Toce, and Kenji Ogawa. The team went with a Star Wars theme and, along with overall bronze, they also won the Mystery Box’s Most Innovative Taste Award and the best mise en place of the entrée.
