Wise Wheat, created by CSIRO, will be distributed by Allied Pinnacle and used in Woolworths in-store bakeries

More than 20 years of global research and development by Australia’s national science agency CSIRO has come to fruition in high fibre wheat ingredient brand, Wise Wheat.

Developed in conjunction with Limagrain and GRDC, and bred by Australian Wheat Grain Technologies (AGT), Wise Wheat contains more than six times the fibre of regular wheat.

The wheat is grown across New South Wales’ and Victoria’s wheat belt.

Distributed by Allied Pinnacle, Wise Wheat will be used in a range of white and seeded bread loaves and rolls that will be available in Woolworths in-store bakeries.

Allied Pinnacle chief executive officer David Pitt said the company was thrilled to partner with Woolworths to introduce the product to the Australian market.

“These products offer consumers a simple yet effective way to increase their fibre intake the natural way with no compromise on taste or change in eating habits,” he said.

“Bread is just the beginning.”

Woolworths Merchandise Manager – Bakery Donald Keith said they were committed to providing customers with products that aligned with their evolving preferences for convenience and health.

“Introducing Wise Wheat into a selection of our popular every day bakery loaves and rolls offers an easy way for Australians to make healthier choices without sacrificing taste or convenience,” he said.

To coincide with the launch dietitian Dr Joanna McMillan will take part in an educational campaign to help educate consumers about the fibre gap – both in consumption and knowledge – with new nationwide research revealing more than a quarter of Australians (28 per cent) consumer just 20g or less of fibre per day. This is below the recommended intake of 25g for women and 30g for men.
