The 2026 iteration of the Baking Industry Association of Western Australia’s (BIAWA) Baking Industry Awards have been declared a success, with more than 500 entries received from across the state.

Judging was held on May 27, 2026 and BIAWA executive officer Paula Van Styn said the excitement was palpable ahead of the event.

“The standard of competition was exceptional, making for a highly successful and fiercely contested event,” she said.

“… [it] showcased the incredible talent, creativity and passion that exists throughout the state’s baking industry. Judges entered the pavilion to discover an impressive display of beautifully crafted breads, pastries and gourmet creations.

“Alongside the traditional Bread and Pastry categories, entrants embraced the challenge of 21 new Gourmet Classes, unleashing remarkable innovation and culinary flair. More than 200 outstanding winners will be recognised with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Certificates at the prestigious BIAWA Galal Awards Night on August 8, 2026.”

The gala night will have the theme “Japanese Fantasy”, and promises to be an unforgettable evening. More than 200 guests are expected to gather to celebrate excellence in baking while also enjoying a three-course dinner. Then there will be the Subi Japanese Dance Team performing kimono dances, Taiko-On who will bring the spirit of Japanese festival drumming to life, and Perth’s own Gabz DJ who will deliver an energetic soundtrack to the evening.

Since 1902 BIAWA has championed WA’s baking community, supporting commercial bakers, apprentices and home bakers alike.
