A finger bun from Sydney and a Queensland sausage roll have made the 2024 Uniquely Aussie Awards list.
The list, compiled by wotif.com, names the top Australian foods, places and experiences as determined by the public.
Humble Bakery in Sydney has taken home the top gong for the nation’s best finger bun.
The classic bakery item has been transformed into a gourmet treat by the bakery, and now features dried cranberries, golden raisins, currants, baby-pink cream cheese frosting and a generous slab of butter sourced from Coppertree Farm.
The category finalists included Routley’s Bakery (Geelong, Vic); Bushman’s Bakery (North Mackay, Qld); Parap Bakery (Parap, NT); Tas’s Bakery (Dunsborough, WA); Cakery Bakery (Wanniassa, ACT); Dulwich Bakery (Dulwich, SA); and Cripps Bakery (Glenorchy, Tas).
Queensland’s Kenilworth Bakery claimed the top prize for the sausage roll.
Tucked away in a Heritage-listed building on the state’s Sunshine Coast, the bakery has built itself a reputation for their products and challenges – including a 1kg sausage roll competition. If a customer successfully eats the oversized sausage roll they get their money back and also see their name added to the leaderboard.
Finalists included: Bourke Street Bakery (Sydney, NSW); Rolling Pin (Geelong, Vic); Ben’s Bakehouse (Darwin, NT); Emu Lane (Katannina, WA); Three Mills Bakery (Fyshwick, ACT); Banana Boogie Bakery (Belair, SA); Summer Kitchen (Ranelagh, Tas).
The two bakeries joined other winners including The Terrace Rooftop Bar at Emporium Hotel South Bank, Brisbane, which was name Best Hotel Bar; Henley Surf Life Saving Club, Henley Beach SA, which was named Best Surf Club; Wineglass Bay Lookout in Tasmania, which won Best Lookout Point; and the National Wool Museum in Geelong, Victoria, which took home the prize for Best Regional Museum.
In the past The Gumnut Patisserie has been named on the list for their Neenish Tart, and Bridgewater Bakehouse took home a prize for their vanilla slice.
