Early September saw the nation’s best bakers battle it out for the titles of The Official Great Aussie Pie and Sausage Roll competition.

Buddy Bakery from Melton in Victoria took home the coveted Plain Meat Pie title for their chunky pie, with Four Seasons Patisserie & Bakery from High Wycombe in WA coming in second.

WA’s Jack’s Bakery took home the Gourmet Pie prize for their lamb and red wine creation. Orange Spot Bakery from SA claimed the top prizes in both the Plain Sausage Roll and Pastie categories, while Orange Pie Company took out the Gourmet Sausage Roll title for their maple bacon and hazelnut sausage roll.

The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition was established in 1989 by John Ross and Craig Perry, with the aim of raising the quality standards of  pies throughout the country. In 2011 the Aussie Pie Council (APC) purchased the rights to the competition, and in 2013 the Official Great Aussie Sausage Roll competition was established.
