Sweet Belem has been a mainstay in the Sydney suburb of Petersham since 2003, and recently opened the doors to a second bakery in Barangaroo – a move that was met with great excitement.

The bakery has built a cult following thanks to their iconic pasteis de nata – classic Portuguese tarts, which are made onsite using a family recipe.

The new Barangaroo outpost will see the pasteis de nata lined up next to new menu offerings like bola de Berlim (Portuguese egg doughnut), and vanilla slice as well as savoury pasties like chorizo and beef pie, chorizo bread, egg and bacon danish, and chicken pie.

Owner Jose Silva, who took over the business in 2012, said they had been looking for the perfect location for a while.

“We had been looking to expand the business for some time, so when the Barangaroo location came up we jumped on it,” he told Concrete Playground.

“We want the new store to feel very much like an extension of Petersham; nothing will change except the audience, and a few exciting menu additions.

“Being able to tap into the corporates on weekdays and visitors on the weekends – it feels like a the right step for us. We’re incredibly excited to bring Sweet Belem to Barangaroo.”
