LoDe Pies farewells co-owners

Sydney institution LoDe Pies has announced it will be waving farewell to two of its co-owners, Lorenzo Librino and Benji Spencer.

The news was announced on LoDe Pies’ Instagram in late January, alongside a tribute to the pair.

“Your passion, dedication, and incredible hard work have shaped Lode into what it is today. As Lorenzo and Benji embark on new adventures, we’re eager to witness where your creative takes you next,” the company shared below the post.

LoDe Pies will now be run by fellow founder and Lumi chef Federico Zanellato, who launched Lode Pies in Sydney’s Surry Hills alongside Lorenzo.

LoDe Pies’ 2021 opening was a hotly anticipated occasion.

Federico, who is also the owner-chef at LuMi while Lorenzo was a LuMi kitchen graduate, announced their aim was to make Lode Pies feel more like a boutique than a bakery.

“We’d like to be as good as Lune in Melbourne, or Rollers in Manly,” Federico told good food at the time.

Although Lorenzo and Benji won’t be part of the business’s day-to-day operations, they have assured customers they will still be involved with Lode Pies in a reduced capacity from February 1.

With Federico now taking over the reins, some fresh new ideas are expected to make their way into the product range.

“We’re going to focus and make sure that everything is of a super high standard and has interesting flavour combinations in the pastry,” he told Hospitality Magazine.
