Calling all baking apprentices, nominations are open for the 2024 LA Judge award.

The Australian and New Zealand  competition will be held from May 7-9, 2024 at AEGIC Sydney.

Across the three days the young bakers will have their practical baking skills, technical knowledge and communication skills put to the test.

The competitors will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in:

  • working with different bakery equipment to produce a variety of bread products in a practical assessment;
  • the science of baking, functionality of ingredients, flour milling and product costing through written theory papers; and
  • communicating their ideas on current industry topics through honing their presentation skills.

Rounding out the competition will be the Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony.

2023 winner Bjarke Svendsgarrd said competing in LA Judge made him feel more passionate about baking.

“…[it] made me want to improve my skills. While the practical was nerve-wracking, the relief and feeling of success when we finished made the experience worth it,” he said.

“The whole competition has been awesome and memorable.”

Competitors must be nominated by their employer or training institution via a baking association to represent their state. More information about the criteria can be found on the LA Judge website.
