Koko Black will open its first Queensland store next month

Chocolatier Koko Black has announced it will be returning to Queensland next month.

The newest boutique is set to open its doors on December 5 in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall.

Koko Black chief executive officer Rory Gration said the return to Brisbane was more than just a store opening.

“It’s a long-awaited reunion,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to be back in Queensland, sharing our passion for handcrafted chocolate with a city that’s always had a taste for the sweeter things.

Mr Gration added Queensland accounted for more than 20 per cent of  Koko Black’s online customer base.

Queensland’s first Koko Black store opened its doors in 2014, but was a casualty of the business entering voluntary administration in 2015. The new Brisbane store will mark Koko Black’s  22nd store and, Mr Gration said, represented a major milestone in Koko Black’s expansion journey.

According to Linium Intelligence, Koko Black currently holds more than one tenth of the chocolate confectionery market in Australia’s DTC channel, putting it on par with Lindt and behind Haigh’s Chocolates.

Founded in Melbourne’s Royal Arcade in 2003, Koko Black has grown into a national favourite, known for its artisanal quality, bold innovation, and proudly Australian spirit.

In addition to the Brisbane store, Koko Black opened a flagship store in The Market Pavilion at Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping centre, and acquired Melbourne-based Chocolate Australia and its production facility in April this year.
