The 2025 Pastry World Cup podium. Japan successfully defended the title

January 25 saw the 19th Pastry World Cup take place, with Japan successfully defending the title.

The French team placed second and the Malaysian team came in third.

The winning team was comprised of Masanaori Hata (chocolate), Yuji Matoba (sugar), and Ryu Miyazaki (ice cream).

Held at Sirha Lyon 2025, the Pastry World Cup saw the competitors faced with an unprecedented test – the Chocolate Show. During this event the competitors had to create and design 26 sweet creations based on Valrhona chocolate.

Pastry World Cup president Pierre Hermé said the 2025 competition had once again provided a magnificent demonstration of the pastry know-how.

“All this with many changes, such as the duration of the competition, which has been reduced, the transformation of the chocolate dessert by a ‘chocolate show’, which forces the pastry chefs to show great creativity and to get out of their laboratories. The candidates can be proud,” he said.

“Being here in the heart of Sirha Lyon for the Pastry World Cup is an honour and an extremely exciting moment for a pastry chef like me,” Grand Final honorary president Amaury Guichon said.

“You can see each team and therefore each culture interpreting its heritage through its art in each of its creations. The level is extremely high in the use of chocolate and sugar.  It is sincerely the highest artistic level of what can be done in pastry.”

Belgium was awarded the special eco-responsible prize of this Grand Final. This prize is awarded by the International Organising Committee to the team that best complied with the various CSR criteria imposed by the competition rules and regulations.
