While the entries for Savour Patissier of the Year have well and entries closed due to an overwhelming number of entries, you can still watch Australia’s best patissiers battle it out at Foodservice this year on May 28 to 30 in Melbourne.
This year’s competitors can be viewed at savourpatissieroftheyear.com/chefs/, and they’ll be judged by renowned patissiers Christophe Michalak, Jordi Roca, Antonio Bachour and Paul Kennedy.
Competitors will bring their product to the competition pre-made and put the finishing touches and garnishes on in the competition arena. From there, judges will taste and judge each product, and select a winner in each category. The contestant with the highest combined score will win the title and prize of Savour Patissier of the Year.
There are four categories; the first is desserts where contestants will create a beautiful plated dessert. The second is tarts, where contestants are to crate an innovative tart, experimenting with shape, size, flavour and filling. The tart must contain a baked pastry of the contestant’s choice. Entremets is the third category, where contestants are free to design their own concept, shape and flavour, and the fourth category is éclairs, where judges are asking for a modern interpretation of the éclair with a multitude of textures and flavours.
It looks to be a challenging and exiting event, held at Foodservice in the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, where there’s plenty of other attractions for bakers to check out.
The Baking Arena will feature the latest products, ingredients and equipment for the baking industry, and there will be a bakery stage full of great demonstrations from industry professionals.
