Dubai Chocolate leaves shelves after major recall

Australia’s food safety authorities have issued an urgent recall of a popular imported chocolate bar known as the Dubai chocolate, citing the presence of undeclared allergens.

The recall, posted on the Australian Food Standards website, affects all blocks of the product sold under the Choco Bliss brand in Queensland, with expiration dates up to and including January 2026.

According to the recall notice, the product may contain undeclared pistachio, milk, sesame seed, and wheat—ingredients that pose potential health risks to individuals with specific allergies or intolerances.

“Any consumers who have a pistachio, milk, sesame seed or wheat allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” the agency warns.

Choco Bliss, an Australian retailer specialising in imported sweets and novelty confectionery, has removed the chocolate bars from shelves and urged consumers to return them for a full refund.

“Consumers who have a pistachio, milk, sesame seed or wheat allergy or intolerance should not consume this product,” the recall states.

“Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”

The Dubai chocolate bar, which has surged in global popularity over the past year, owes much of its fame to viral TikTok videos showcasing its unique composition.

The bar features a rich chocolate shell filled with a chewy mixture of kadayif—a shredded pastry dough common in Middle Eastern desserts—and crushed pistachios.

While some allergens such as pistachio and milk may be anticipated given the ingredients, sesame seeds and wheat are less obviously present, prompting the need for precise labelling.

This recall follows a broader trend in chocolate-related food safety incidents globally, as regulatory bodies tighten oversight on allergen declarations.
