The small Croatian town of Jaskovo has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest strudel chain.
On September 6 a total of 8940 strudels were made, using two tonnes of flour and three tonnes of apples, to create a line that stretched more than 3km.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Paulina Sapinska said, “after very rigorous verification and counting, I can announce a total of 8940 strudels was achieved, which means there’s a new Guinness World Record title.”
The attempt was made during the village’s traditional Strudelfest, where the strudels were made using a regional recipe before being laid in line buy locals and volunteers.
Monika Ivis was one visitor to the town during the event. She told AFP that everyone had worked very hard to achieve the record.
“They taste super,” she said.
The region’s mayor Martina Furdek Hajdin said events like this helped to boost the rural region’s development.
“Strudel is linked with local tradition,” she added.
Following the record the strudels were donated to a range of institutions, organisation and people in need.
This marks the second time Jaskovo has claimed the Guinness World Record, with the first time set a decade. That attempt saw the strudel chain measure 1479m. The most recent record is from 2019 when the Croatian town of Sisak made nearly 6000 strudels for a line that measured more than 1762m.
