Sydney’s famous Black Star Pastry has delighted Melbourne fans with the announcement on Instagram of a three-month Black Star pop-up store in Melbourne, beginning mid-February.
Owner and chef at Black Star Pastry Christopher Thé told Australian Gourmet Traveller he’s had his eye on Melbourne for a while now.
“Thanks to my mate James Meehan from Café Italia, the opportunity came up to use Italia’s little unused kitchen,” he said.
“It’s a pop-up that might stick around for
a while.”
The space is quite small so the Melbourne store will be sticking to desserts initially, and Black Star’s executive chef Samuel Yeo will be moving to Melbourne to oversee the cake and coffee focus.
Melbournians can look forward to tucking into one of the most instagrammed cakes in the world, Black Star’s strawberry and watermelon cake (pictured), as well as their raspberry lychee cake, orange and Persian fig cake and black sesame and yuzu cake.
The Black Star online store will also be open to Melbournians, where customers can order full cakes.
